Shrines (Day 159 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

I'm taking a break from doing stanza and talk about shrines and why, for me, they are important. Even if you're hiding your path from those that will not understand you can still have a small shrine. I have one to Frigga, wife of Odin. I also have an altar to Freya and Frey. The shrine is something that I can carry around, with me, when I'm traveling and want to have something to at least honor a Norse goddess that's connected with women and the home.

I'm lucky that my mother hasn't made a big deal about both, but I know the need to hide things. I have to hide my path every day of my life. Shrines help to connect you with the gods, even though you can have a shrine to the housewrights or even one to the spirits of the land. Shrines to the spirits of the land are usually outside. I hope that anyone that decides to have one enjoys using theirs and enjoy their time with the gods.

7th Stanza from Volispo (Day 158 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

This is the last one for the week and I won't be doing another one until Tuesday.

At Ithavoll met the might gods,
Shrines and temples they timbered
high;
Forges they set, and they smithied ore,
Tongs they wrought, and tools they fashioned.

So the meeting place is called Ithavoll. This place is mentioned when Ragnarok is over. It's once again the meeting place of the gods, meaning that not all the gods die. Dispite what Clash of the Gods would like you to think.

6th Stanza from Volispo (Day 157 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

Here's another stanza from Volispo.

Then sought the gods their assembly seats,
The holy ones, and council held;
Names then gave they to noon and twlight,
Night and evening, the years to numbers.

5th Stanza of Volispo ( Day 156 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

Here's another section for you today.

The sun, the sister of the moon, from the south
Her right hand cast over heaven's
rim;
No knowledge she had where her home should be,
The moon knew not what might was
his.

One of the things that Wiccans that follow this path must understand is that the Norse didn't view the moon as a goddess or a sun as a god. They switched them and made the sun a female and the moon a male. This is the same thing with the Egyptians. Look at Thoth, who has a moon on his head and is connected with the moon as well as Horus being connected to both the sun and the moon and goddess being connected to the sun. Ra is the only god that is soely connected with the sun.

4th Stanza of Volispo (Day 155 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

I have another section of poem for you.

Then Bur's sons lifted the level land.
Mithgarth the mighty there they made;
The sun from the south earth,
warmed the stones of
And green was the ground with growing leeks.

So it looks as though Bur's was born and then his sons came around and started everything.

3rd Stanza from Volispo (Day 154 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

Here's another stanza from Volispo.

Of old was the age when Ymir lived;
Sea nor cool waves nor sand there were;
Earth had not been, nor heaven above.
But the yawning gap, and the grass
nowhere.

This is very interesting, as it talks about a time before even Odin was alive. It means that she's been there before the gods, or at least seen what it was like before they arrived.

Sigrblot (Day 153 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

Today is Sigrblot, where we honor the god Odin. Today marked the end of the winter and the beginning of voyages and raiding. Today I'll just do a simple prayer to him, thanking him for getting us through this winter. And I'll go outside and pour an offering to not only him but also the spirits of the land that had once been a farm. It's the only thing that I can do with such limited time. Hail Odin and hail to all Heathens that try and be honorable by him.

(Day 157 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

Time for another section of poem.

Then sought the gods their assembly-seats,
The holy ones, and council held;
Names then gave they to noon and twilight,
Morning they named, and the waning moon,
Night and evening, the years to number.

Okay, so names are given to different things that are mentioned in this section. Because, hay, everything needs a name. But also it needs to be told what it is and time must be established. That's just the way of the universe.

2nd Stanza for the Voluspo (Day 152 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

Now that I'm back writing daily I'm going back to doing this daily. So here is the next stanza.

I remember yet the giants of yore.
Who gave me bread in days gone by;
Nine worlds I knew, the nine in the tree
With mighty roots beneath the mold.

Sorry for Not Being On (Day 151 of 366)

Hail and Merry Meet!

I know that it's been since November that I posted anything, but life has gotten in the way. I'm still practicing and still growing as both a Wiccan and as a Norse pagan. I've been busy working and sleeping most of the time. Didn't really have time to do anything like writing. Last week three churches down in Louisiana were set on fire. The person that did it was connected to Odinism and believed that blacks should return to their pre-Christian roots.

And while I do believe that Africans were forced to convert a long time ago, black that worship the Christian god worships that god of their own free will and feel connected to him. To burn down their houses of worship is no different than what Christians did to our Norse ancestors over a thousand years ago. The same affects happen no matter who does the torching. To me he was no Heathen and nether are those that claim to be practicing Heathens who do these kinds of things.

The gods look at these kinds of things with narrow eyes. There will be no Vahalla for them, only the punishment that is dolled out by Hel. With that said, may the gods continue to watch over you.
